A Winter Cure

Well, winter has decided to blow its way back into Texas and show its ugly face again. It’s not that I hate winter. And I know, every spring, there are an abundance of comments claiming that winter will never end and spring seems so far off.
But, it’s true! You get a little taste of Spring, and every dreary day in between seems just that. Dreary.

To be honest, I was waiting for a chilly day so I could pull this coat out of my closet. I was hoping to wear it at least once before the warm weather arrived.
I guess I got my wish.

In a few months, you’ll hear me complaining about the hot and humid tropical climate we live in. (sans the beautiful beach & crystal blue ocean)
It’s a double edged sword world we live in, folks.

Hats Off To Monday

How in the world do these weekends go by so quickly?
I can’t believe it’s already Monday again.
Fortunately, this Monday is bringing us beautiful weather.
I woke up to 60 degree temperatures and so bare legs were inevitable today.

Chad and I worked on the house over the weekend, clearing out weeds from our yard and uprooting the unsightly bushes from the front of our house.  I can’t wait for Spring to officially begin, so we can plant new flowers and start a little herb garden on the side of the house.
I will say, however, yard work is hard on the body!
I woke up this morning with aches and pains all over.
I suppose it’s time to get back in shape.
{cue the moans and groans}

That being said, it was a lovely weekend spent outdoors. Trail hiking, playing football at the park, working in the yard and future garden and just enjoying the beautiful (almost) Spring days.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, as well!
Be sure to enter the Chain Crochet giveaway! The winner will be announced tomorrow!

Snow Days & Giveaways

I can’t even begin to explain my enthusiasm about the beautiful, white, fluffy, magical snowflakes that are falling outside of my window right now!
I woke up and ran out of our bedroom, across the freezing cold hardwood floors and to the front door. My breath fogging up the window panes. And with wide eyed wonder, I saw the falling flakes. Granted, we still had to go to work, but it’s beautiful nonetheless.

I have been in such a clothing rut lately, because I really hate this time of year. My heart wants to buy/wear Spring clothes, but the weather tells me otherwise.
It makes for hard mornings getting ready.

But you can’t pass up a chance to take pictures in the snow!
I still dressed for warmth, really, but it was so fun to be out there in the white stuff!

Now, onto the good stuff, congratulations Natasha Kugel on winning the Valentines giveaway!
I hope you enjoy your wonderful goodies!

Now, everyone go enjoy this beautiful day!

Leather Memories

There are those few and far between staple pieces that you might have in your closet, that you care for a little more than others. The ones you will never find on the floor of your closet. This leather jacket is definitely one of those pieces. My mom actually bought it for me when she paid me a visit while I was living in Florence, Italy a few years ago. It’s special to me not only because it’s from my mom, but also because it is filled with so many memories. Memories that I cherish so much.
When I look at it, it takes me back to that time in my life. Gosh, I was so different then. Different in good ways and bad.  I was much more naïve and independent, that’s for sure. But I was also young and immature. It was a time in my life where I lived a little more on the edge. I dressed a little more bohemian, and I was definitely into the sad and soulful music. It was when I got my first (and only) tattoo.
It was such a wonderful but sad time in my life.  Wonderful, because I was carefree and a little naïve to the world. Sad, because I was more lost than I realized.

Isn’t it interesting how a piece of clothing, a smell, or even a memory can take you right back to that place you once were? You can literally “feel” the way life felt back then.
It’s such an odd thing. I love where I was then and I love where I am now.
I love how much I’ve grown, and I love that I have this leather jacket to take me back to those times and places and remind me of who I was then.
On those sunny Italian days. Sketching or writing in my journal. Sitting cross-legged overlooking the Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River. My wrists full with leather bracelets.
Listening to weepies and dreaming of my future. Feeling so free and independent.
The tattoo on the inside of my wrist still fresh and just oh, so cool.

I love growing up, but I love going back too.
